Who is it for
This course is for anyone who would like to progress to level 3 courses such as A–Levels, Access to Science or BTECs. It is especially relevant for anyone wanting to go into teaching or nursing.
Interview Skills Assessment
If you have a grade D science already you can enrol. If not then you will be offered an interview and may be required to sit screening assessments to determine your eligibility for all these courses.
What will I need
You can enrol immediately if you have GCSE Science at grade D or English and maths GCSE grade D or 3 and above. Or functional skills English and maths level 2. If you do not meet the above entry requirements you can apply but will be referred to the science department for an interview to determine if the course is suitable.
What is covered
GCSE Core Science will help you to understand how science affects everyday life and will give you a good understanding of the main scientific theories of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The course will also help develop your practical and problem solving skills, and covers a number of topics including human biology and the environment, products from rocks and energy transfer and waves.
How is the course assessed
All of the GCSE science courses are composed of final year examinations as well as coursework completed in classes.
What can this course lead to
After completing this course you can move onto a level 3 qualification such as Access to HE Science or BTEC Sciences providing that you also have your Maths and English GCSE's. If you have L3 already this could support your entry to university.

It would be advisable to purchase a relevant GCSE text book and you will be advised of this when you start.
