Who is it for
If you have a genuine interest in graphic design and want to acquire the tools and
knowledge to become a design professional then this course is a great starting block. The course is aimed at those who have an interest in editorial design, designing for online and digital art and will provide you with an array of skills and knowledge to make the right decision when choosing the next exciting step in your creative career.
Interview Skills Assessment
You will be required to attend a Welcome Event, details will be provided upon application.
What will I need
4 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above, including English and Maths and an arts or media based subject. Or Merit in a relevant Level 2 Diploma. In order to be offered a place on the course, you must also successfully complete a portfolio examination for arts and media. Further information will be sent to you when you are offered an interview date. Should entry requirements not be met we are open to review an applicant's grades/achievements on an individual basis and take into account creative ability.
What is covered
You will study a variety of creative processes and gain the technical skills to create designs for a variety of outcomes such as; magazine design, packaging, app/web design, image creation, typography and branding.
You will have the opportunity to work with computer based professional packages
allowing you to nurture and perfect your graphic design techniques. You will also
investigate contextual influences and learn how to reflect on your own practice and
discuss the work of others.
How is the course assessed
This course is assessed through portfolio/coursework submissions and project briefs. Students will be able to achieve a pass, merit or distinction grades.
What can this course lead to
Employment in the art and design industry or progression on to further study. There are some very successful degree programmes in the fields of graphic design.
Are there any additional costs
Additional costs to include a £10 refundable deposit for an A1 portfolio locker and
standard locker. Supplying your own art kit and costs for trips to galleries and museums.
