Who is it for


Around 450 million people currently experience mental health problems, with
recent reports suggesting that over 12 million working days were lost due to
work–related stress, depression or anxiety in just one year.
It's important that employers are transparent and open about mental health
issues, and this qualification builds an understanding of mental health problems
and the support available to colleagues. Increasing the understanding of mental
health of staff at all levels builds a culture of care and support.
This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to raise awareness of
mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental
health. This qualification gives learners the opportunity to understand mental
health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or
colleagues in the workplace.

What will I need

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners should be aged 19 or above to undertake this qualification.

Do you need to be working to take this qualification?

This is a knowledge–only qualification. Work/industry placement experience is not required.

What is covered

The purpose of this qualification is to give learners the skills to support colleagues with mental health problems. These skills will be gained by increasing the learner's knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace.

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units.

This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured. Learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes of the units as detailed in the qualification specification.
