Who is it for
This course is ideal for you if you wish to pursue a career in the Childcare industry. The purpose of the T Level (technical qualification), is to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment, higher–level technical training or a university programme within the education sector.
This course offers you an attractive alternative to A Levels and apprenticeships. An industry–based work placement is required to run alongside your course, this must be a minimum of 750 hours and will further reinforce your newly learned skills and offer a true insight into the childcare industry.
What will I need
5 GCSEs at grades 4 or above, including English Language and maths, or a relevant Level 2 Diploma.
What is covered
Studying the Childcare T Level will enable you to develop core skills and knowledge such as working with others, observation and child development.
As part of this course you will study a variety of topics including:
• Wider context of the sector
• Supporting education
• Safeguarding and wellbeing
• Health and safety
• Behaviour
• Observation and assessment
• Equality and diversity
• Special Educational Needs and disabilities
• English as an additional language
• Parents, families and carers
• Reflective practice
You will study utilising learning resources and materials such as:
• schemes of work
• tutor delivery guides
• classroom activities
• blended learning activities (eLearning)

• home study tasks
How is the course assessed
In the first year you will be expected to complete two paper–based exams.
In the second year, you will complete an employer–based coursework assessment:
• Core components will be assessed through a project set by employers from within the industry and two externally–set tests.
• Occupational specialisms will be assessed through a defined project that is created in conjunction with relevant employers and supported by specialist tutors on programme.

Successful completion of this course accrues UCAS points and a number of major UK universities accept T Levels. Please see points achieved by grades below.
T Level Distinction* = 168 UCAS Tariff Points = A*A*A* at A Level
T Level Distinction = 144 UCAS Tariff Points = AAA at A Level
T Level Merit = 120 UCAS Tariff Points = BBB at A Level
T Level Pass (C or above) = 96 UCAS Tariff Points = CCC at A Level
T Level Pass (D or E) = 72 UCAS Tariff Points = DDD at A Level
Due to the high–level academic nature of the T–Level and the considerable industry placement element totalling a minimum of 750 hours, you will also have the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours to successfully progress directly in to specialist area of education or early years, or you can progress on to an Apprenticeship or higher level study.
Other details
Your T–Level will include an industry placement with an employer to develop the practical and technical skills required for the occupation.
We will support you in finding relevant work placements but you must demonstrate willingness to travel to your work placements.
These will last a minimum of 750 hours. Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a combination of the two.
You will also require a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced disclosure certificate which the College will support you to apply for.
