“Jobsmart is our family now” – Former Refugee Praises Peterborough College’s Jobsmart Employment Service

Our Jobsmart employment service has been heavily praised by Abdul Yoldash, a former refugee, who received a job offer as a result of their security course selection day. Abdul was so appreciative of our efforts, that he had a cake made for our Jobsmart staff.

Former Jobsmart student, Abdul Yoldash, served as an interpreter for the UK Special Forces, but when the Taliban took over his country, his connection to the UK put him and his family in danger. They were urgently evacuated to Pakistan and then eventually arrived in England in November 2021.

In August 2022, Abdul attended a security course selection day at Jobsmart, after being referred by Peterborough JobCentre Plus. He was pleased to be offered a position and had a positive experience during the four-week program. The Centre also helped him with his CV, and he had the opportunity to meet with several potential employers during student information sessions.

As a refugee, Abdul had to undergo a lengthy process to obtain a DBS, but he is now awaiting the arrival of his Door Supervisor licence. Jobsmart staff will assist him in arranging interviews so that he can provide for his family, which is his goal.

When Abdul’s wife gave birth to a baby in December 2022, he had a cake made for our Jobsmart staff. “In my country, when we have a baby, we invite the family round for a cake to celebrate. We have no family here. Jobsmart is our family now. Thank you for all the help you’ve given to me and my family.”
