Peterborough College Hosts Mayoral Assembly, Reinforcing Commitment to Community Engagement and Civic Leadership

25 April 2025

Peterborough College was proud to serve as the host venue for the Peterborough Citizens Mayoral Assembly 2025. This event brought together residents, civic leaders, students and mayoral candidates for an evening of meaningful dialogue and democratic engagement.

The Assembly, organised by Peterborough Citizens in partnership with Cambridgeshire Citizens, provided a platform for community voices to be heard on vital issues such as affordable housing, public transport and youth support. With over a dozen local organisations represented—including schools, charities, cultural institutions and unions—the event embodied the collective civic spirit that Peterborough College champions in its strategic vision.

As part of Inspire Education Group, Peterborough College is committed to creating inclusive, community-rooted opportunities for education and leadership. Hosting this assembly clearly demonstrates the College’s active role in shaping a fairer, more connected city. The event aligns directly with the College’s strategy to embed community partnerships and civic responsibility within its operations, while fostering student voice and leadership.

The Assembly featured performances and presentations from local students, including those from Thomas Deacon Academy and Peterborough College, highlighting the vital role of young people in shaping the city’s future. It also showcased the leadership of Peterborough College Students’ Union, with SU representatives chairing the event and helping facilitate discussions with the mayoral candidates.

By opening its doors to such a high-profile civic gathering, Peterborough College continues to position itself at the heart of community life in Peterborough, not just as a provider of education, but as a catalyst for change and empowerment.
