Peterborough College Students Complete Work Experience with JoJo Maman Bébé

Visual Arts students of Peterborough College undertook work experience with JoJo Maman Bébé, the UK’s favourite boutique mother & baby brand.

Level 3 Graphic Design, Level 1 Art and Level 3 Art and Design learners followed a live brief set by Lee Stone, Head of Graphic Design at JoJo Maman Bébé. Designing for the company’s Store Birthday Party Creative that celebrates their high street stores’ birthdays, the students produced digital and printed assets, including graphics for use in a Facebook ad, a store page banner, an email newsletter, and in-store posters and party crowns. Their work needed to communicate a fun, birthday party feel, whilst working within JoJo Maman Bébé’s brand guidelines.

Live briefs are common place on the Visual Arts courses across Inspire Education Group, as they help students to put their formal College learning into practise. Students experience working towards a client’s requirements, meeting deadlines, and presenting their ideas. Peterborough College Graphic Design Lecturer, Georgie Wise, said, “The students have benefitted enormously from the experience of working on this live brief. It has been a rewarding opportunity for them to work directly with the Graphic Design team at JoJo Maman Bébé and create assets for this boutique retailer. The high standard of graphics that have been produced show the excellent understanding our students have for developing work that is highly creative, fits a brief, and is client-ready. These are great skills that will enhance the portfolios of all the students who submitted work and have offered students an insight into what it is like to work for a real client”.

Lee Stone, Head of Graphic Design at JoJo Maman Bébé commended the students’ hard work, “Thank you so much to the students of Peterborough College for taking the time to research our brand and design for us. We think some really interesting ideas have come out of it and we have thoroughly enjoyed looking over all of the work”. All the students that participated received individualised feedback, both positive and constructive, from the Design, Buying & Marketing Office at JoJo Maman Bébé. They were so impressed with Level 3 Art and Design student, Rose Cole’s work, that her illustrations are going to be incorporated into the brand’s final designs. Lee said, “Rose picked out a lot of really important design elements and her research into current trends was spot on. The outline drawings of a fox and elephant turned out really nicely in colour, and we feel that they compliment our creative quite well”. Rose found the experience very rewarding, “Working with JoJo Maman Bébé has been a proud moment for me, and has given me the confidence as I continue on with my studies at university this year. My time at Peterborough College has enabled me to discover my passion for a subject that I didn’t know I had, and has given me endless creative freedom and helped me discover what I love”.

Inspire Education Group gives thanks to JoJo Maman Bébé for this opportunity, and looks forward to seeing the students’ designs in action.
